In The Name Of God Amen In The XXXth day of the moneth of August
In the year of our lord God Xt Vt XXy and in the XIVth year of the reigne of king Henry the eigth.
I John Barell of Ffoxherd in the countie of Essex and in the day of Londay?. Hole being in mynde
and of good and parfite remembrannce thanks be thu my savyour. Make and ordeyn testament not
this my last wille maid and fo?e folowing revoking and adnulling all other testaments and willys
before this tyme by me made. And i will that noo xpone or xpones take any advantage by theyme.
Ffirst i bequeth and comende my soule to almighty God, our Lady saint Mary, and to all the holy
company in hevyn, and my body to be buried in the parishe church yarde of Ffoxherde the which
doay i will and on gods behalve require myn executours that they hooly content and paye all my
detts the which caime or mayt be proved that i owe to any person or persons of right. Also
i will and bequeth unto the high awter of the parish church of Ffoxherd aforsaid for tithes and
oblacions necligentlye forgotten XXs.(20 shillings). Also i will and bequeth to Alice my wife
the ffarme that i dwell in not all the lands medowes pastures and all the appurtensros therto
belonging for the terme of the yeres that is promyses and granted betwene willm Mayer and me.
Also i bequeth unto the said Alice my wife all the whete and barley that groweth upon the said

Also i will that if soo be that my moder and the said Nichas cannot agree dwelling togider in Bradfelds than i will that my moder shalhave half thise bequeth and the said Nichas the other half evenly devided betwene them at the advise of myn executours and enptunsour and to have her dwelling in Ballards and the profits of the lands VM(Small T above) the favour of Ffoxherd therto belonging for terme of her lyfe, and after her liffe i will that if remayn for ay obite to be doon VM (Small T above) the said towur of Ffoxherd for the soules of my fader, moder, and of myn and if so be my moder and the said Nichas agree togider. I will that the said Ballards not all the profits of the lands meadowes pastures fedinge and all the appurteuncs therto belonging nowt the said towur of Ffoxherd shall goo for myn obite, and if they agreenot, i will that myn exerntos take ovote of my lands in boxley XYs MYs yearly to be doon for myn obite terme of six lyfe, And after six decesse, than i will that the said Ballards shall goo for the abite for the soule of me and the soules of my fader and moder to contynue forever. Also i will that my moder at the deliveramce of this my bequest shall make unto myn executours a genall argmitance for all the bequethood of my fader willm (tiny ia above) saving only that she shall have half her houshold stuffe and her beddyng. And that doon, i will that she shalhave this that i have bequethed unto her orclly nat. Also i will and bequeth unto Johan Barell ve beside the bequest of my fader. Also i will and bequeth unto John Chapleyn of Lyfron, my grey coate. Also i bequeth unto Chapleyn of Boxley my best burnet coate. Also i bequeth unto maister willm(mark above, Short for William) Floptons Thelder foure my chamber jaket and my best goblet. Also i will and bequeth for a treutall to be songe for my soule in Ffoxherd church XTe. Also i will and bequeth to be doon for me at my buriall XXe and at my moneth other XXe. Exept that yf soo be my moder and the said Nichas cannot agree togider / than i will that my moder shalhave her dwelling in Ballards with all the profits therto belonginge within the towne of Ffoxherde aforsaid at my willys afore, and than i will that myn executours shall onote of the said lands and tents in Borley and Lyfton XIYe MYS yearly durying my mothers lyff to fulfill myn obite of my willys before and the residue to my wife for keping of the childe till it cometh to the forsaid age XXI years keping the rexamount / and yf to be my wife dye before my childe cometh to the age of XXI yere / than i will myn executours and my buynifours have the profits of the said landa in Borley and Lyston to the keping of my childe till he cometh the full age. And yf to be the childe dye before it cometh the full age of XXIte than i will all my landes tents medowes felurge and pastures aswell fret as copye lying in Bosley, Lyfton and Ffoxherd shall goo yearly to the pour people of the towne of Ffoxherd aforsaid pastures or to my obite wherto i will and straitly comannde and charge all my fofeoffees of and in my forsaid lands and tentes not other the premisses that they and either of them shallmake and deliver astare to X or XY of the honestmen within Ffoxherd, Borley, and Lyston surhe as myn executours and superinsour shall affigue to the perfomanure of thys testament and my last wille. And also i will whan soever it happen that all the feoffees dede ovte take Y OX IY than i will that they remove and make a newe astate to other X or XY. Soo that the lands may ever contynue in feoffement to the performance of this my last will. Also i will all the residue of my goods of my goods not afore expressed to be doon for the most welth of my soule as myn excentos thynke best and that they agrue accounyte yearly unto my enpernisour howe they be bestowed and after his distrecion i will they be revlyd. Also i will that Alice my wyfe shallave the houshold stuffe that she brought unto me: And the half houshold / not my moder. My moder to chose the best and my wyf the next. Also i will yf so be my wife make or clayme any of my said lands or any parcell therof otherwise than i have bequethed / than i will that i have bequethed to her shall stand voide and noo affect.
